Late Term Abortion
Dr. George Tiller of Wichita, Kansas was murdered in his church on May 31,
2009. Dr. Tiller was one of the few doctors in the United States who
provided late term abortions to women with severe fetal abnormalities or
maternal health indications. His death has restricted women’s access to late
term pregnancy terminations and we have had an increase in phone calls and
inquiries regarding second trimester and advanced abortion services.
To address this need, the staff of Curtis Boyd, MD PC has decided to provide
late abortions into the third trimester on a case by case basis. We are
honored to have Dr. Susan Robinson and Dr. Shelley Sella, both of whom
worked with Dr. Tiller, joining our staff to perform these procedures. Our
dedicated staff specializes in pain control techniques and offers grief
counseling and ceremony to women who find them helpful or request them.
Appointments for late abortions are now available. The advanced abortion
program at this clinic involves a three to four day process beginning with
the insertion of laminaria and an injection of Digoxin on the first day.
Laminaria are inserted daily until the cervix is ready, usually on the third
or fourth day. Completion of the abortion process occurs safely through the
use of medications, each woman’s natural rhythm and various instruments as
needed. Patients will receive individual attention and emotional support
from our dedicated physicians and staff as they go through this process.
All advanced abortion patients receive pain medication throughout the
process for comfort. A ride to and from the clinic is required each day as
these medications will restrict driving.
Please call our office if you would like to discuss this service further or
to refer a patient.
